Letters in Painting: Edmund Blair Leighton

Writing Letter by the Window by Edmund Blair Leighton
Edmund Blair Leighton (1852-1922) was an English painter, better known for his historical genre scenes. He was both influenced by the Romantic movement and the Pre-Raphaelites, but he did not actually belong to any of those trends. Leighton likes detail and the hyper-realism of some of his paintings may remind us of Jan Vermeer, the earlier Dutch master.
