Étienne Adolphe Piot (c. 1825 – c. 1910) was a French painter known for his portraits of beautiful young women.
This is a graceful picture of a girl writing a letter with a smile which the French call ravissant de grâce. Both her smile and eyes convey the pleasure she is taking in the activity of writing.
