Letters in Painting: Jonathan Janson

Girl Writing a Letter (2008) by Jonathan Janson
Jonathan Janson (1950) is an American painter and art historian who currently lives and works in Rome even though he returns regularly to the United States. He is also the author of a number of web sites (such as Essential Vermeer) concerning the seventeenth-century painting master Johannes Vermeer. He paints in oils (domestic interiors) and in watercolors (the American surban landscape).

This painting shows a girl who is maybe writing her third attempt at a decent letter (we see the crumpled drafts on the left side of the table).  Are you familiar with the feeling?
