Letters in Music: "Parašyk man laišką iš Paryžiaus"

We had presented a couple of songs about letters and writing in previous posts, which I came to know thanks to Simona Armonavičiūtė, who has also been kind enough to share some insight into this song. 

Here is Simona's comment: "This song is actually about a girl. The first verse says that a little girl dreams of becoming a model in Paris and she dresses her mother's clothes and wears her makeup. Then in the second verse she grows up into a beautiful lady who participates in beauty contests. The most important part is, of course, the chorus in which the singer states that the girl's family and friends don't believe in her success and the singer himself jokes that when she becomes a world star, she will write him a letter from Paris. Finally, in the last verse the girl goes to Paris and she is sad to leave him. However, times flies fast and she never sends him the letter he has waited for so long... Wow, I have never really got deep into this song as I don't like this singer but it makes sense".

Letters in Music: "Baltas laiškas"

We had presented a song about letters and writing in a previous post, which I came to know thanks to Simona Armonavičiūtė, who introduced me to Lithuanian culture and gave me all these references to letters and writing in their music.

This song, by Pikaso, "Baltas laiškas" is excellent to introduce us to the fall, its colors and coolness, a preface to winter time. It says something like this in the chorus:

 "Baltas laiškas" 

Is it cold without me? Are you cold? 

I write you a white letter in the snow again. 

Is it cold without me? Are you cold? 

The frost will draw a cold face on a window."

Letters in Music: "Aš ant balto smėlio parašiau tau laišką"

A República de Lituania,  "o tigre báltico", é un dos países que me encantaría visitar no futuro próximo: Vilnius (a capital) e o seu casco antigo barroco (o meirande do norte de Europa), as praias do istmo de Curlandia coas súas dunas móbiles, o río Nemunas ou a reserva natural do golfo de Kursiu son algúns dos seus atractivos que seguro que paga a pena visitar.

Da maior das repúblicas bálticas, da man da encantadora Simona Armonavičiūtė,  chegoume unha escolma de cancións lituanas que tratan do tema das cartas, que irei presentando en varias entradas e que espero que vos dea tamén unha idea do acento cantareiro desta lingua, o lituano, que é recoñecida como unha das linguas indoeuropeas vivas máis conservadoras e que retén máis características do protoindoeuropeo, perdidas xa noutras linguas indoeuropeas.
